Makoto Shinkai (新海誠Shinkai Makoto), born as Makoto Niitsu (新津誠Niitsu Makoto, born February 9, 1973) is a Japanese director of anime and former graphic designer. A native of the Nagano Prefecture. Shinkai studied Japanese literature at Chuo University where he was a member of juvenile literature club where he drew picture books. He traces his passion for creation to the manga, anime, and novels he was exposed to while in middle school. His favorite anime is Castle in the Sky by Hayao Miyazaki. Shinkai has been called "The New Miyazaki" in several reviews including Anime Advocates and ActiveAnime, comparisons which he calls an "overestimation". In 2001, Shinkai was a 28-year-old graphic designer who quit his job at game developer Falco to work on an ambitious project: Voices of a Distant Star. Shinkai wrote, animated, and even voiced the 25-minute original anime, which received rave reviews on both sides of the Pacific Ocean, eventually released officially in North America by ADV. Two more works followed: 2004's The Place Promised in Our Early Days and 2007's 5 Centimeters Per Second. The son of a pastor, Reinhard gave his life to the Lord at age nine, and heard the call to the African mission field before he was even a teenager. After attending Bible College in Wales, and his ordination in Germany he pastored a church and then went on to start missionary work in Africa. It was there, in the small mountain kingdom of Lesotho, that God placed upon his heart the vision of 'the continent of Africa, being washed in the precious Blood of Jesus' — an entire continent, from Cape Town to Cairo and from Dakar to Djibouti that needed to be reached and to hear the proclamation of the signs-following Gospel. He began holding meetings in a tent that accommodated just 800 people, but, as attendance steadily increased, larger and larger tents had to be purchased, until finally, in 1984, he commissioned the construction of the world's largest mobile structure — a tent capable of seating 34000 people! Soon, attendance at his meetings even exceeded the capacity of this huge structure, and he began open-air Gospel Campaigns with an initial gathering of over 150000 people per service! Since then, he has conducted city-wide meetings across the continent with as many as 1600000 people attending a single meeting using towering sound systems that can be heard for miles ...

Burroughs, originally published in 1959. The book was originally published with the title "The Naked Lunch" in Paris in 1959 by Olympia Press. An American edition by Grove Press followed soon after in 1962. The American edition was titled "Naked Lunch" and was substantially different from the Olympia Press edition. This is because the Grove Press edition was in fact based on an earlier 1958 manuscript that Allen Ginsberg had in his possession. The article the in the title was never intended by the author, but added by the editors of the Olympia Press 1959 edition. Nonetheless, "The Naked Lunch" remained the title used for the 1968 and 1974 Corgi Books editions, and the novel is often known by the alternative name, especially in the UK where these editions circulated. Time magazine included the novel in its "TIME" 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005." David Cronenberg released a film of the same title based upon the novel and other Burroughs writings in 1991.

The central character, Guy Montag, is employed as a "fireman" (which, in this future, means "book burner"). The number "451" refers to the temperature (in Fahrenheit) at which a book or paper supposedly autoignites, though the actual temperature is just short of twice that[1]. Written in the early years of the Cold War, the novel is a critique of what Bradbury saw as an increasingly dysfunctional American society. A movie version of the novel was released in 1966, and it is anticipated that a second version will begin filming in 2009.
